How To Start A Home Based Computer Consultancy Business
A small business computer-consulting firm can be set up once you are clear about the economics of the venture, have the skills required for setting up shop and the various options available to start a business on your own.
Economics of a Computer Consultancy Business
A typical billing rate for a small computer consultancy business is in the range of $100 an hour. Setting a rate at this level would be appropriate for a start-up firm, as anything more would require you to move into the really big league with highly skilled sales and technical staff. Taking a 40 hour week with a 75% utilization rate, the billable time works out to 1500 hours a year. This yields gross revenue of $150,000 per year, which can typically be deployed as iin the following list.
Salary for Sales Executive: $40,000
Marketing Expenses: $10,000
Taxes, Insurance and Overheads: $50,000
Technical Staff salary: $50,000
Total: $ 150,000
Skill Requirements
Besides pure technical skill, setting up a computer consultancy business also requires business skills to ensure that you are up and running. Below is a list of these types of business skills.
Data Management: A good knowledge of a spreadsheet program like Excel will help you to manage the data for your client and your own business.
Communicating Effectively: Good verbal and written communication skills are a definite asset. The ability to come across effectively on the phone while dealing with prospective clients and retaining them is essential. Hone your ability to write effective and grammatically correct emails. You may also be required to give presentations to small groups of people. Familiarity with packages like PowerPoint will be an added advantage in setting up effective presentations.
Options for Setting Up
Essentially, there are two routes you can take when making the decision to set up your home consultancy. Either you can decide to set up your business entirely on your own, or you can buy into a franchise. Whichever course you decide to take, you must be prepared for some hard work, especially in the initial startup phase. You will be required to meet with prospective clients, follow up on the promising prospects personally and on the phone. The final decision will depend on how much time and financial capital you are prepared to invest in your venture.
Franchising: The franchiser will have certain rules and procedures that you will be expected to follow. You will also have to part with a fixed percentage of your revenue. If you are looking for independence and flexibility in running your business then you may not like to follow this route. Alternately, if you have the requisite capital, you could also consider buying up an existing business.
Starting Your Own Enterprise: Starting your own business can be done with a few thousand dollars, a home office, a business phone number, and a business card. In addition, besides the legal licensing registrations, you may require an attorney and an accountant.
Starting your own computer consulting business does require hard work initially. However, the rewards of being able to get your venture up and running can well be worth it.

Where we live currently, we have BCBS group health insurance. We would like to have BCBS Group health insurance in Texas, too, but I am not finding it. We do not want small business owner health insurance because we get a better rate with group insurance.
Please do not reply with spam. If you are an agent, that is fine, but please keep your answer relevant to my specifications.

Business professional liability insurance for business coach
A business coach can help an individual entrepreneur or a company, in meeting targets, managing time properly, making the right investments, or improving the existing system. When a person relies upon a business coach for so many things, his expectations are substantial. If things do not go forward the way he had hoped it to, he would obviously hold the coach liable for much of the negative fallout. The entrepreneur is bound to initiate legal action under such circumstances. If the coach does not have business professional liability insurance, he will find it extremely difficult to cope with the situation.
It is often argued that a person will not need professional indemnity insurance if he discharges his duties correctly. It is an arithmetic that does not gel from a practical perspective because, more often than not, the mistakes are inadvertent. A mistake on the part of the coach can ensue from just a minor communication gap. But it can have larger ramifications than we may expect and would motivate the client to seek compensation. When there is business professional liability insurance, the insurance company will meet all the expenses of engaging trained lawyers to defend the coach in court and will pay any money that becomes payable to the client as per the discretion of the court.
While private sector has always been seen as comparatively more challenging, public sector has also become an arena that demands perfection, creating a huge demand for the right coaches in the public sector. While these coaches have been successful in improving public sector performance, they are not pardoned if things go wrong. That is why business professional liability insurance becomes mandatory for a public sector business coach.
By this same token, professional indemnity insurance is important for telecommunication business coaches as well. The type of service they provide will vary based on the client’s need and the stage that the business is in. The more his coaching is required in taking important decisions, the more the risk the coach is exposing himself to. Accordingly, those coaches involved in helping with more important decisions will also require more business professional liability insurance cover.
A health care business coach motivates health care professionals and helps physicians to discover themselves by awakening their talents, and guide them in career transition if necessary. A doctor’s job is a high-risk arena since his mistakes can lead to life and death issues. A business coach who motivates him is becoming part of that risk. A health care business coach can be held responsible for a doctor’s mistake that is a result of his guidance, and might have to pay a huge compensation if found guilty. Professional indemnity insurance cover will be the only way out of such a situation. Business professional liability insurance is important for a health care business coach because, while people are ready to pay well to retain one, they will be equally exacting in demanding compensation if things did not work out well with the help of his advice.
In short, survival is difficult for a business coach without professional indemnity insurance, whether he is helping people with the complexities in the filed of health care, telecommunications, or publics sector.
